2012: Forthcoming Events

If any of us are going to courses or special classes at other venues, we post them up on our Facebook page and sort out car-sharing and so on on our Facebook group.

Farewell to Louise

There is no practice next Tuesday (24th Jan) because the hall is unavailable. Instead we are going to solemnly and soberly say farewell to Louise, who is leaving us for California.

Gather from 7pm at The Crown pub in Egham (TW209DP), next to Strodes College: 4 mins from Egham station.

The Crown does a good range of real ales and very reasonably priced food. In fact it's hard to see what the attraction of California is considering this is the kind of thing available here, so perhaps in the course of the evening we will be able to persuade Louise to reconsider her decision to leave us. All welcome, new and old faces alike!

Please let one of us know (either contact us or tell us on Facebook) if you're coming, so we can vaguely predict the numbers. See you there!

Calendar: classes and courses

UKA National Courses

These are the dates of UKA national courses already scheduled for 2012 so you can keep your diary free. Venues (normally in Birmingham or thereabouts) will be confirmed nearer the time. The national courses are often easy to get to because we travel up together. If you've got any questions, get in touch.

Forthcoming UKA courses: 2012
22 January Sunday National course
25–26 February Sat & Sun Winter school in High Wycombe

See the UKA website for details of other courses by UKA instructors.

Previously . . .

End of 2011

The last UKA National Course has run — as usual our dojo was represented. We also went to the Fukushidoin course (where our teacher Neil taught). Several of our members train regularly at other dojos too, in addition to individuals making aikido trips to Lithuania, Edinburgh and even Bangkok!

UKA Summer School 2011

Two of our seniors passed gradings at the UKA Summer School in August, which is a testament to their hard practice over the years and the quality of the training at our little dojo. This year the summer school was overseen by Kobayashi shihan from the Tokyo hombu dojo, and several members of the Spelthorne club attended for the whole week.

Start of 2011

We've attended classes and courses at other dojo already, including the first UKA national course of the year in Dudley and the UKA Winter School in March. This year, members of our dojo have been to a variety of courses taught by UKA shihan, as well as training in Edinburgh, Strasbourg, and Japan (hombu dojo).

UKA Summer School 2010

Most of us went to the UKA Summer School in August with Sugawara shihan from the Tokyo hombu dojo. We had a good week of training, and both members from our dojo who were entered for grading passed their demanding examinations, which makes all of us very proud!

Sunday 28th February 2010

We once again hosted a special class in the Tatsumaki Dojo in Slough. We invited two guest instructors, Gordon Jones 6th dan shihan (UKA) and Paul Robinson 5th dan (Birankai). It was a good day of hard training — photos have been posted in our Facebook group.
